So this is part #3, pillar 2 on the “MOST” technique.
Pillar 2 Organization , you need to be organized to the point you do not waste time looking for information or trying to remember what search goes were etc. Organization is a very important pillar to the “MOST” technique. If you are organized, your ability to multitask will go up. You can learn organization skills very many places but one of the best is yourself. That is right yourself, one thing we all need to remember is all the training in the world on organization will only go so far. You need to learn how to implement these skills within the confines of your own abilities and ways of thinking. Remember to take advantage of your natural born abilities when applying any organizational skills you pick up. For that matter whenever you learn any skill or techniques always see how you can utilize your natural born abilities to enhance what you learned. Next Part 4 Pillar 3 Speed.

“MOST”-Part 2!!!
Getting the “MOST” out of yourself, Multitasking!! So this is part #2, pillar 1 on the “MOST” technique. Pillar 1, Multitasking, the ability to do more than one thing at the same time. When most people hear the word multitask they think 2-3 things at once. However in my world it could mean as many as 15+ things at once or more. For the purposes of this post we are going to call any activity we are performing a process. So in my case I have 8 computers and when I am working I usually have all 8 going and each performing at least 2-5 processes each, and I bounce from process to process. I mean let’s remember if the process we are performing is a search there are what I call down times with in the process. A downtime would be the time after you have put in your search parameters and enter search. There is usually a few seconds of downtime before the search results are pulled up, why wait, move on and get another process started. Now I understand not everyone has 8 computers, but the idea works with even 1 computer, just use multiple windows and have multiple processes going at once. In other words “Multitask”. As I said in earlier posts all the pillars are interconnected. So while 10+ processes seem like allot, and you might worry about keeping it all straight and QC, if you use and learn all 4 pillars you will have no problem handling more processes than you would have thought. Of course this is another one of those learned but cannot be learned, as you can learn to multitask to a point but without some inherent ability you will be capped. I cannot guarantee everyone will handle 15+ at once, but if you learn and use all the pillars you will handle more than you can now. Next Part 3, Pillar 2 Organization “MOST”-Part 1!!!
Getting the “MOST” out of yourself, the 4 pillars needed to get to the next level. Often I am asked what are the secrets of my success. When I try to explain it, most people thought some of these secrets were not something you could learn, you either had it or not. To a point this is true, but also to a point you can learn them and as such can get better. So here I will identify the pillars, and then in the following 4 posts I will further explain the pillars and what they give you. In the last post, post 6, I will show how they connect and how you can gain them and thus allow you to get the “MOST” out of yourself as a staffing professional. Pillar 1, Multitasking, the ability to do more than one thing at the same time. When most people hear the word multitask they think 2-3 things at once. However in my world it could mean as many as 15+ things at once or more. Pillar 2 Organization , you need to be organized to the point you do not waste time looking for information or trying to remember what search goes were etc. Pillar 3 Speed, not just fast but warped speed fast, the ability to perform at warped speed is essential to the pillars. Pillar 4 Time Management and planning, simply put you need to understand or learn how to manage your time effectively and have a plan. Together these 4 pillars make up the “Most” technique, a set of skills needed to get you to the next level. Next Part 2, Pillar 1 Multitasking PPS, anything that goes wrong in Staffing comes down to PPS!
PPS stands for People, Processes and Systems. Basically the premise is if there is anything wrong within a staffing or for that matter any organization it comes down to either the People, the Process or the systems being used. For people we are not just talking recruiters, or sourcers. We are talking anyone who has anything to do with staffing, sourcing, hiring of people to the company. That means, the recruiters, sourcers, HR, on boarding, Hiring Manager, interviewers, compensation etc. Make sure you look at them all. For Processes we are talking not just the staffing process or staffing lifecycle, but any processes that impacts staffing, to include JD creation, leveling, needs analysis etc. anything. Again make sure you look at them all. For Systems, we are talking any system that impacts staffing. These systems might include; HRIS, ATS, outlook, payroll, compensation, etc.. any system that impacts staffing. The key here is to remember just because there is a problem in staffing does not mean it is the recruiter or the ATS, or the Staffing process. It could be any process that directly or indirectly impacts staffing. However you can be assured the problem will fall into one of three categories; People, Process or Systems. |
