Sometimes simple is best, less is more!!!!!
Within HR, staffing and business in general, there is a huge push towards metrics, and process. Everyone wants to ensure they have a process, and it can be measured. These things are very important, however we need to ensure we look at them and incorporate them for the right reasons, and looking for the right things.
So let’s start with process, of course you need a process by which you work. However less is more when it comes to process. Just because you think the process has 100 steps does not mean it has to. This is where process improvement and lean comes in. When thinking of the process “less is more”, “simple is best”. Do not go into this thinking the more steps you have, he bigger the better. The reality is, it is the opposite. Try to make the process as simple, as possible. This will ensure you are not wasting time, and can not only perform at a high level but do so quickly. This may mean doing some lean process improvement and finding and deleting the redundancies and wasted steps.
Now on to metrics, how we measure how the process is working, how our employees perform and more. This is another example of less is more, and simple is best. I mean do we really need to know how many calls our recruiters make in the last 10 minutes of a work day on Friday. Really? No of course not. Be sure whatever metrics you use are relevant, and important. Whatever you do try not to over complicate it by having to many metrics, having metrics that really do not matter or worse require too much time on the part of the recruiter or HR person to provide the needed info. Remember less is more, simple is best.
